About Waterhaul®

Dog bowl made from recycled ocean plastic

What is Waterhaul®?

Waterhaul is a company dedicated to transforming discarded fishing gear, commonly known as "ghost gear," into high-quality, sustainable products. By recycling materials such as polypropylene from trawl nets and lines, Waterhaul creates items like eyewear and litter-picking equipment, promoting environmental conservation and resourcefulness.

Polypropylene – Polypropylene is a lightweight, durable thermoplastic polymer widely used in various applications, including fishing gear like ropes and nets. Its chemical structure consists of repeating propylene monomer units, resulting in a material known for its strength and versatility.

Waterhaul's recycling process involves collecting discarded fishing gear from coastlines, separating it by polymer type, and mechanically recycling it through shredding, washing, and extrusion. The resulting 100% recycled raw material is then used to manufacture new products through injection moulding.

It's important to note that while Waterhaul's recycled polypropylene products are derived from reclaimed ocean plastics, they are not biodegradable. This durability ensures the creation of long-lasting products. At the end of their lifecycle, these items can be recycled, contributing to a circular economy and reducing environmental impact.
